ISLAMIC, Mongols. Great Khans. Uncertain rulers, AD 1230s-1260s. Dirham (Silver, 19 mm, 1.54 g), Pulad, AH 658 = 1259/60. Within two concentric circles, double-trident tamgha; around, ‘lā ilāha illā Allāh Muḥammad rasūl Allāh …’ (‘There is no deity but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah …’ in Arabic). Rev. ‘ḍuriba hādhā / al-dirham / bi madīnat Būlād’, continued around ‘fī shuhūr / sana thamān khamsīn / sitta miʾa’ (‘This dirham was struck in the city of Pulad in the months of the year 658’ in Arabic). Album S1979. Rare and nicely toned. Very fine.
